"Il richiamo del potere sembra fortissimo, specialmente per chi se ne sente privo. [...] La gente sembra ben disposta a combattere e morire per il potere, ma non può o non vuole assumersi un simile impegno nei confronti del piacere. Che cos'è la mistica del potere? [...] il potere è la capacità di manipolare o controllare l'ambiente. In questo senso tutti gli animali hanno un determinato potere grazie al quale manipolano l'ambiente per soddisfare i loro bisogni. Il castoro costruisce una diga, la marmotta scava un buco e l'uccello costruisce il nido. L'uomo è il più grande manipolatore ma finché il suo potere rimase personale egli non era differente dagli altri animali [...] non turbava l'equilibrio naturale.[...] Il potere che l'uomo ha a disposizione [ora] è spaventoso.[...] Il potere è l'opposto del piacere. Ha con il piacere lo stesso rapporto che l'Io ha con il corpo. Il piacere sgorga dal libero flusso di sensazioni e di energia all'interno del corpo o tra il corpo e l'ambiente. Il potere si sviluppa tramite il controllo e la delimitazione dell'energia. [...] Il potere si sviluppa dal controllo e opera tramite il controllo. Non ha altri modi d'azione. [...] Il vento non ha potere; è soltanto una forza. Ha energia. E' quando controlliamo la forza del vento facendo girare le pale di un mulino che generiamo potere.[...]"

"Il piacere è il senso di armonia tra un organismo e il suo ambiente. Questo non è un concetto storico, perché l'ambiente è in continuo mutamento, fornendo le opportunità per nuovi e intensi piaceri. Il potere invece è una forza che porta al controllo e alla disgregazione. Erige un muro tra l'uomo e il suo ambiente naturale. Lo protegge, ma lo isola anche. La persona che vive in un appartamento di una città moderna, riscaldato d'inverno e ventilato con i condizionatori d'aria d'estate, e che va a lavorare in un ufficio dello stesso tipo della casa, è come un animale in uno zoo o un pesce in un acquario. [...] Acquistando potere sulla natura, l'uomo è soggetto ai medesimi controlli che egli stesso ha imposto all'ambiente. L'insidioso pericolo sta nell'effetto della disgregazione dei raporti umani. La persona che esercita il potere diventa un'immagine superiore, mentre la persona soggetta al potere viene ridotta alla corrispondente immagine di oggetto. L'uso del potere nega l'eguaglianza tra gli esseri umani e porta necessariamente al conflitto e all'ostilità. Questo è particolarmente vero nei rapporti stretti e personali che esistono in una casa. "Power call seem to be strong, expecially if one feels to have not.[...] People seem to be happy to fight and die for power, but they cannot or they do not want to carry on such a commitment for pleasure. What is power mysticisme? [...]Power is the ability to manipulate or control the environment. In this way, animals have a definite power through which they manipulate the environment and satisfy their needs. A beaver build a dam, a bird makes a nest and so on. Human being is the greater manipulator, but until his power remained personal he wasn't different from the other animals [...] He did not unsettle natural balance.[...] Power that human being dispose of [now] is horrible.[...] Power is the opposite of pleasure. It has with pleasure the same relation that the I has with the body. Pleasure gush from free flux of sensations and energy inside the body. Power developes through control and energy delimitation. "Pleasure is the sense of harmony between an organism and its environment. This is not an historycal concept, because environment is always changing, giving opportunities for new and intense pleasures. Power, instead, is a force that leads to control and disgregation. It builds a wall between human being and his natural environment. It protects him, but isolates him, too. Someone who lives in an apartment in a modern city, warmed in winter and kept ventilated with air conditioning during summer, and works at an office of the same kind, is like an animal at the zoo, or a fish in an aquarium.[...] Taking power onto naature, human being is subject to the same controls that he imposed himself to the environment. The danger is in disgretation effect of human relationships. Use of power deny equality between human beings and lead to conflict and enmity. This is particularly true in tight and personal relationships which exist at home.
