Listen, Lord, I know you want to help,
but please can I have a little suitcase instead,
the sort of little, rather battered suitcase
that’s got old labels all over it,
and little elasticated pouches round the inside
for swimming-goggles, necklaces, blackcurrant-juice;
that waits by the door looking so expectant and adorable
you have to take it with you
every time you go out,
that’ll go anywhere and do anything;
that’s as pink and summery, Lord,
as a summer pudding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Look, O Lord, I know You’re trying to help,
but You’ve never had to deal with an ex-husband, have You,
so You don’t know what it’s actually like, do You?
Winter, Lord.
I need something I can hold.
And I can’t hold hands with a fall of snow, can I?
And it can’t be hard for someone like You, surely,
to get me a little suitcase to carry around.
And I want it to have two tiny keys, please.
And I want a really good one
that will love me for ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

che aspetti alla porta cos\u00ec speranzosa e adorabile
che devi per forza portarla con te
ogni volta che esci,
che venga ovunque, che farebbe qualunque cosa;
cos\u00ec rosa ed estiva, Signore,
come un budino estivo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guarda, O Signore, lo so che stai cercando di renderti utile,
ma non hai mai avuto a che fare con un ex-marito, vero,
perci\u00f2 non sai realmente come sia, no?
Inverno, Signore.
Ho bisogno di qualcosa da poter stringere.
E non posso stringerele mani a una nevicata, no?
